Terms of use

Last updated: October 8, 2026

These terms apply to your use of Nanaimo Vote.

About this site

Nanaimo Vote provides information about local elections, candidates, community issues and voting in Nanaimo. The site is an informational resource, not an official election authority.

Candidate listings, statements and links are provided for informational purposes. Their inclusion does not constitute an endorsement.

Editorial independence

Nanaimo Vote operates independently of the City of Nanaimo, Elections BC, candidates, campaigns and political organizations.

Candidates may contribute information to their own profiles but do not direct the website's editorial policies, candidate comparisons or presentation of other candidates.

Nanaimo Vote does not accept, and will not accept, any payment or other form of consideration in exchange for preferential placement, favourable coverage, editorial influence, or the publication, modification or removal of candidate content.

Nanaimo Vote maintains editorial independence in the selection, organization and presentation of candidate information.

Candidate participation does not grant preferential treatment or influence over the website's editorial decisions.

Candidate statements, including requests for electoral support, remain attributable to the candidates themselves and do not represent the views or endorsements of Nanaimo Vote.

Accuracy and official information

We aim to provide accurate and useful information, but election details, candidate positions and linked content may change. Information on this site may be incomplete, outdated or contain errors.

Confirm voting eligibility, registration requirements, voting locations, dates and deadlines with the City of Nanaimo or the election authority responsible for your area. Nothing on this site replaces official election instructions or legal advice.

Candidate statements and sources

Candidate statements, biographies and policy positions were initially gathered from candidates' publicly accessible official campaign websites. Nanaimo Vote may select relevant excerpts and organize content under common issue categories to support comparison.

Candidate information may be identified as gathered from official campaign websites, provided directly by the candidate, or reviewed and approved by the candidate. These labels indicate the source or approval status of the information, not independent verification of its accuracy.

All candidate statements represent the views of their respective authors. Nanaimo Vote does not endorse, oppose or recommend candidates and does not independently verify campaign claims.

External links

This site links to candidate websites, social media accounts, government resources and other third-party websites. We do not control their content, availability, security or privacy practices. Linking to a website does not imply endorsement of its content.

Visitor use and candidate access

Visitors cannot create accounts. Candidate selections, filters and comparisons are handled locally in your browser for the current session and are not sent to or stored on our servers. We use limited, basic analytics (Google Analytics) and monitoring to keep the site functioning correctly and reliably. This does not include advertising, campaign strategy, profiling or recommendations. Optional mailing-list subscriptions are separate from these activities.

Candidates may receive private access to manage their own profiles, including biographies, statements and issue positions. This access is limited to their own profile and does not provide access to other candidates' private information, administrative tools or visitor information. Candidates may view other candidates' publicly available profiles in the same manner as any other visitor. Candidates are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their access credentials and for content they submit or authorize for publication.

Nanaimo Vote may suspend or restrict candidate access where necessary to protect the security or integrity of the platform.

Candidate participation does not grant editorial control over Nanaimo Vote. All candidates are subject to the same participation and publication standards.

Nanaimo Vote retains final editorial authority over the information published on the platform.

See our privacy policy for details.

  • Impersonate another individual or misrepresent the source or authorship of submitted information.
  • Disclose private personal information without appropriate authorization.

These standards apply equally to all candidates, regardless of their political positions.

Ownership and reuse

Nanaimo Vote's original text, design and other original materials belong to Nanaimo Vote or their respective rights holders.

Candidate-submitted statements, photographs, logos and other third-party materials remain the property of their respective rights holders. Submission of material grants Nanaimo Vote permission to reproduce and display it in accordance with these terms but does not transfer ownership.

You may link to this site and share brief excerpts of our original text with attribution and a link to the source page. This permission does not extend to third-party materials. Nothing in these terms limits uses permitted by applicable law.

Corrections and submissions

Candidates and members of the public may report inaccuracies, disputed statements or potentially unlawful material through our contact form.

Candidates submitting material confirm that they are authorized to provide it, have the necessary rights for its publication and accept responsibility for its accuracy and legality.

By submitting material, candidates grant Nanaimo Vote a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, display, organize and publish that material as part of the website, including maintaining reasonable archival records of previously published content.

Nanaimo Vote does not rewrite, paraphrase or substantively alter statements submitted directly by candidates. Nanaimo Vote retains discretion over the organization, presentation and publication of candidate content, including the right to decline or remove submissions in accordance with these terms.

Submission or approval of content does not guarantee publication.

Nanaimo Vote may retain submission records and related information as reasonably necessary for operating the website and complying with applicable legal obligations.

Content moderation and removal

Nanaimo Vote reserves the right to review, decline, temporarily withhold or remove submitted content where reasonably necessary to address legal concerns, enforce these terms or protect the integrity of the platform.

Reasons for moderation may include potentially defamatory allegations, misleading attribution, unauthorized personal information, unlawful content or violations of the acceptable use requirements.

Nanaimo Vote may seek clarification or supporting information from candidates but is not required to provide advance notice or an opportunity to respond before taking action.

Nanaimo Vote is not obligated to publish or retain any particular candidate submission.

Availability and liability

Nanaimo Vote is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that all information will be accurate, complete, current or suitable for every purpose.

Candidate statements and campaign claims represent the views of their respective authors. Nanaimo Vote does not independently verify all candidate-provided information and does not endorse or adopt those statements by publishing them.

Candidates remain responsible for the content they submit, including its accuracy, legality and any necessary permissions.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Nanaimo Vote and its operators are not liable for losses resulting from use of, inability to use or reliance on the website or its content.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability or limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site develops. Revised terms will be published on this page with an updated revision date and will apply to use of the website from that date.

Where changes materially affect candidate submissions, publication rights or responsibilities, candidates may be required to review and accept the updated terms before submitting or modifying content.

Previous versions of these terms may be retained for reference, accountability and administrative purposes.
