  1. Nanaimo Vote will be read-only on Election Day

Beginning at 12:00 a.m. on October 17, Nanaimo Vote will switch to read-only mode for Election Day. In keeping with Elections BC’s rules on election advertising on General Voting Day, we’ve chosen to pause all candidate and content updates while voting is underway. The site will remain fully available for reviewing profiles, comparing candidates and accessing election information, with the same information available throughout the day.

Beginning at 12:00 a.m. on October 17, Nanaimo Vote will switch to read-only mode for Election Day.

The site will remain fully available. You’ll still be able to review candidate profiles, read their positions, compare candidates and access election information. What will pause are changes to candidate profiles and other election content.

Keeping in the spirit of Elections BC’s rules around election advertising on General Voting Day, we’ve chosen to pause all changes to candidate information while voting is underway. Nanaimo Vote is an independent, non-partisan information resource and does not endorse, promote or oppose candidates, but this gives us a clear and consistent cutoff and avoids any last-minute changes while people are actively voting.

The information available when Election Day begins will be the same information available to voters throughout the day.

Candidates can continue reviewing and updating their profiles until that cutoff.

Once voting is complete, Nanaimo Vote will move towards the next stage of the project. We have plans for how the site can continue as a public resource after the election, and there will be more to share about that soon.

  3. Keeping Nanaimo Vote Up to Date as Election Day Approaches

Nanaimo Vote continues to improve as Election Day approaches, with new tools to make candidate information easier to review and keep up to date. Candidates now have access to their profiles and, if they choose, can review, revise, and expand the information published about them. We hope more candidates will use that access, and the new Change Timeline will make it easier for visitors to see when profiles and statements have been updated.

Excitement around Nanaimo’s local election seems to be growing day by day, and we’re seeing that reflected in the interest around Nanaimo Vote as well.

More people are visiting the site, sharing it and reaching out with questions and suggestions. We really appreciate the interest and feedback so far. Our goal remains straightforward: make it easier to find, review and compare information about the people running to represent Nanaimo.

With advance voting underway and general voting day coming up on October 17, we’re continuing to keep the site as current as possible while candidates add or refine information about their platforms.

Candidates can now review their profiles

Candidates should now have received an email providing access to Nanaimo Vote and the ability to review their profile.

From there, candidates can review the information currently published about them and revise or expand their statements and responses. Much of the information initially published on Nanaimo Vote was gathered from publicly available campaign material, and candidate access gives each person an opportunity to review that information and contribute directly.

When information has been provided or updated by a candidate, we’ll clearly identify that on the site. Information gathered from other public sources will continue to include links back to those sources so visitors can see where it came from.

The intent is to give every candidate the same opportunity to represent their positions in their own words while keeping that information together in one place for voters.

    A new Change Timeline

We’ve also added a new Change Timeline, which you can find under the Updates link in the site header.

The timeline provides a running history of recent candidate updates across Nanaimo Vote. Rather than having to revisit individual candidate profiles to see whether something has changed, you can quickly see which profiles have recently been updated and when.

As we get closer to voting day, we expect candidates may continue adding information, refining responses or clarifying their positions. The Change Timeline provides a simple way to keep track of those updates.

It also helps make the process of maintaining Nanaimo Vote more transparent. Candidate information is intended to be sourced, dated and correctable, while the site itself remains neutral and does not rank, score or recommend candidates.

    Election Day

To preserve a consistent record of the information available to voters when Election Day begins, Nanaimo Vote will switch to read-only mode at 12:00 a.m. on October 17.

At that point, candidates will no longer be able to make changes to their profiles or responses for the 2026 election. The information published on the site at that time will remain available for voters to review throughout Election Day.

This gives everyone the same clear cutoff and ensures that candidate information is not changing while voting is taking place.

    Thank you for the interest

There will still be smaller improvements to the site as we approach October 17, but the main focus now is keeping candidate information accurate and giving candidates the opportunity to review what is published.

Thank you to everyone who has visited Nanaimo Vote, shared it with others, sent feedback or taken some time to learn more about the candidates.

It has been encouraging to see interest in the election continuing to build, and we hope Nanaimo Vote remains a useful resource as Nanaimo heads toward voting day.
